Nonsuch Singers are delighted to be invited back to the unique setting of Douai Abbey with its glorious architecture and acoustic with a programme of music for Lent.

Our programme centres around the Lamentations of Jeramiah set by the 16th century master of polyphony Thomas Tallis, and that other contemporary master of sacred choral writing, James MacMillan. We will perform Macmillan’s stunning Mass (commissioned by Westminster Cathedral in 2000) ‘music of high voltage from first to last’ (Gramophone), Padre Pio’s Prayer and Miserere. We also present the sublime setting of Psalm 51, Miserere Mei, Deus by Gregorio Allegri, one on the most justifiably popular a capella works in the entire choral repertoire.
