Douai Abbey

Upper Woolhampton

Berkshire

Joint flier 28.06.2025 and 12.07.2025 final revised.jpg

Join Nonsuch Singers in the beautiful and atmospheric surroundings of Douai Abbey for our performance of this 21st century classic. Commissioned by Nigel Short's celebrated vocal ensemble Tenebrae in 2005, Path of Miracles takes its inspiration from the Camino de Santiago, the ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The four movements reflect the journey from the abbey of Roncesvalles in the Pyrenees, through the great cathedral cities of León and Burgos, finally arriving in Santiago itself. Talbot's choral depiction of this is no ordinary piece; richly scored in 17 parts, the music encompasses everything from plainsong to minimalism, woven through with musical mysticism and drama. This will be an all-encompassing performance, as the music shifts and turns, surrounding the audience from all sides.
